4/21/09 Boys Golf Captures First Win (200 - 248)
LAKE CHABOT: After opening the season with four straight losses, the Bulldogs performed well all around in sweltering heat. Matt Cameron and Pete Stathakos got things going early with a fast start on the short course. Cameron served notice with a match best 31 while Stathakos carded a 38. In the second group, Jack Tenley teamed up with an able Brian Chung to narrowly beat their competition. Tenley shot a 43 while Chung, who has had problems on the long course, saved face today with a 46. In the last group, Chel Toscano made his Bulldog debut and did not wilt under the pressure or the heat, shooting a 46 to tie Chung for 5th best score. Kahleim Giles played in the last group and shot a respectable 42 while suffering dehydration. Tech won the match by a score of 200 - 248.
"We showed today that we have good touch around the greens. Our problem all year has been off the tee - distance and aim. It's really derailed us. Once our guys can get it out onto the fairway, they're fine, but it's a problem that we need to fix soon with Medal Play is just a few weeks away."
Tech will look to continue their success next Tuesday in a rematch with Oakland High.
