BOYS GOLF SEASON PREVIEW

The Boys Golf season is underway.  The three-time defending OAL champions set out last week with hopes of retaining their glory.  Tech returns all six players from last season, including captain, Matt Cameron, a sophomore, making them preseason favorites.  Cameron is joined by returning sophomores Pete Stathakos, Jack Tenley, Brian Chung and Kahleim Giles.  Danny "Nice Tie" Thai, the only senior, returns as well.  Newcomers Chel Toscano, a freshman who won two sand trap competitions in his first practice, Claire Miller and Stacey Wong, both sophomores, round out the roster as alternates.  In addition to the highly anticipated matches against rival Skyline, as well as a pair against O High, Tech will see tough competition outside of the OAL in South San Francisco, De Anza of Richmond, and Pinole Valley, including a tough road match to open the season at Richmond Country Club.

Tech will look to Cameron and Stathakos to set the tone in the top two spots with the remaining positions up for grabs. The success on the team will depend on the development of Giles, Chung and Tenley.  Coach Raeke looks at this season as a part of the rebuilding process.  "Last year we just wanted to field a team.   Only one of our players could play comfortably on a regulation course.  I am realistic and expect a lot of ups and downs this year.  If these kids stick together and play in the offseason, however, they could do some special things next year."
